Two rape cases reported in Mumbai

In two separate incidents, a minor and a teenage girl was allegedly raped in Mumbai yesterday.

A 5-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 22-year-old boy in the city yesterday.

The incident occurred at Oshiwara last evening at around 7.30 pm.


The accused, Salman Ijad, a drug addict from Kolkata, is a carpenter and lives on a roadside at Oshiwara, police said.

Yesterday, when the girl was playing with her brother at the Tukaram Ombale Garden, the accused picked the minor and took her to the nearby jungle, where he allegedly assaulted her, police said.

A passer-by saw the girl crying and took her to the police station.

She was sent to a hospital in Jogeshwari for examination, where doctors confirmed rape.

After a search operation by police last night, the accused was caught and booked under section 376 for rape.

He was later sent to a Nagpada hospital for medical investigations, police added.

In another incident, a 19-year-old college going boy raped a 17-year-old girl in Versova yesterday. The girl was raped last night in a jungle, which falls between 4 Bungalow and 7 Bungalow.

The girl later filed a police complaint with Versova police station, stating that she was threatened and dragged by the boy to the jungle and was raped there.

The accused, who belongs to Pune, is being identified by the police but not yet arrested. He was also being searched at his Pune residence.
