While one fled from ladies room at Dadar police station through its window, the other sneaked out of Nagpada police station as officials failed to lock the jail door
Just days after Afzal Usmani, a suspected member of the radical outfit Indian Mujahideen escaped from the premises of a local court despite police presence, it has been learnt two female accused followed into his footsteps recently.
In the first case, 23-year-old Hema Shaikh escaped from the custody of Dadar police on October 15. She was accused of a housebreaking. After her escape, officials said Shaikh had only been detained for questioning and not arrested.

They said Shaikh was kept in the ladies room and there were no female personnel at that time to keep an eye on the accused. Shaikh utilised this opportunity and escaped from the room through its window. It was only after female officers entered the room the officials discovered about Shaikh’s escape. DCP (zone V) Dhananjay Kulkarni said, “We have booked Shaikh under Section 379 of the IPC and soon she’ll be behind bars.”
In the second case, a woman arrested by Dharavi police station officials for her alleged involvement in a kidnapping case fled from the lockup at the Nagpada police station. The accused was identified as Zubeda Khatun Khan (18). Officials said after personnel failed to lock the door, Khan took advantage of the situation to sneak out of the police station. u00a0
