Thane: Two youth allegedly made an unsuccessful attempt to strip a housewife at the powerloom town of Bhiwandi, the police said today.

Police sub-inspector Yogita Kokate of the Narpoli police station, who is investigating the case, told PTI that they were arrested late last night and a probe is on.

She identified the duo as Neelkant Ganpat Rathod and Shankar Jadhav, who are residents of Shivaji Nagar opposite
the Hanuman temple in town. Quoting from the complaint by the 25-year-old married construction worker, originally hailing from Gulbarga in Karnataka state, the police official said that the accused tried to disrobe her on the street near an Ambedkar statue by pulling her saree.

One of them also offered her Rs 2,000 and asked her to accompany him. When she refused, the accused is alleged to have molested her and also attacked her sister-in-law who came to her rescue, the complaint stated.

The accused have been charged under Sections 354, 354(A) and 354(B) of the Indian Penal Code, the police
official said.
