The exam season has surely kept Mumbai University officials on their toes. A call at 10.17 am on Friday, alerting the varsity about TYBCom’s semester VI Marketing and Human Resource Management (MHRM) paper being circulated on the popular social networking application WhatsApp, made them contact the 223 exam centres and dispatch another set.

This is the second time the MHRM paper has been leaked. It was earlier leaked in 2012, and the University’s Board of Examinations had to schedule a re-exam.

At some centres, the exam began at 11 am sharp. These centres were made to stop students from answering the earlier question paper mid-way, and were then given another set to solve. To make up for lost time, the students were granted extra time.

One of the parents of a TYBCom student said, “My child answered the paper for 45 minutes, after which he was handed over another set. He went berserk when he got home. I don’t understand why was this done to them.”

Another student said, “We got our paper at 11.10 am — ten minutes late — but got ten minutes extra to write.”

UoM Pro Vice-Chancellor, Naresh Chandra, said, “The varsity received a call at 10.17 am that the question paper of TYBCom semester VI MHRM paper is being circulated on WhatsApp. It might have got leaked between 9.30 am and 10.15 am. When we checked, it was same paper. So, we called all the centres and told them that we are sending them another set with via Internet.

Chandra added, “By dispatching another question paper immediately, we have been able to avoid re-exams. We have registered a case with BKC police station’s cyber cell.”
