UP gangrape victim, who was set on fire, dies in hospital

The 21-year-old woman, who was gangraped and set on fire in Etawah in UP, dies in the hospital Friday.

A young girl who was allegedly gangraped by her lover and his five friends and then set ablaze last week in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah, the home town of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, succumbed to her injuries today, officials said.

The victim, who had sustained 90 percent burn injuries, could not be saved as infection had spread to her vital organs, health officials said.

With angry locals accusing the police of conniving with the accused, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) was deployed in Jesarmau village of Etawah where the incident took place.
