New York: Eight-seed Rafael Nadal advanced to the second round of the US Open after beating opponent Borna Coric at Flushing Meadows in New York on Tuesday.

The Spaniard defeated Coric 6-3, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to make it to the next round.

Meanwhile, fourth-seed Kei Nishikori suffered a shocking 6-4, 3-6 ,4-6 ,7-6 (8-6) ,6-4 defeat to Frenchman Benoit Paire, making an early exit from the tournament.
