Vice-chancellor promises to review whether or not UoP needs to spend Rs 18 lakh to organise a principals' seminar at Mahabaleshwar, with spacious auditoriums in the varsity campus available for the purpose
Following a MiD DAY report on January 28 (‘College principals’ workshop at honeymoon destination’), University of Pune vice-chancellor Dr W N Gade yesterday assured that the varsity will do a rethink on organising the February 15-17 principals’ seminar at Mahabaleshwar.u00a0
“UoP has still not finalised the budgetary provision for the Mahabaleshwar workshop. I will look into the issue,” he told MiD DAY.

When probed about the choice of the hill station as the venue, especially since it does not come under the university’s jurisdiction, Gade said that the administration would certainly consider this point. Some officials have argued that the lush green UoP campus with spacious auditoriums would be adequate for the purpose.
The proposed workshop at Mahabaleshwar would cost UoP around Rs 18 lakh for hospitality and other arrangements for about 300 principals of affiliated colleges who are expected to partake.
Also, taking stern note of a recent illegal liquor party held at the University Club, Gade said, “We have discussed the issue at the management council meeting and formed a special committee, which will study the current structure of the club.”
Till now the University Club does not come under UoP’s administration as an elected body of non-teaching staff of the UoP looks after this aspect. But the V-C clarified that in the backdrop of the recent episode; the university may take over the charge of the club. “Strict action will be initiated against the culprits,” added Gade.u00a0
