The Industrial Model Townships (IMT) police post in-charge today said the deer skin was found from the house of 99-year-old Badam Singh from his village named Machchhagar during raids on Tuesday. He said the police did not arrest Singh due to his old age and health but a case has been registered against him and he would be directly produced in a court.
Singh said he was employed as a veterinarian in the Pataudi State and the deer skin was gifted to him by Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi's father and the then Nawab of Pataudi, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, five decades ago. Wildlife Inspector Charan Singh said keeping animal skin at home was not illegal at that time but the laws were amended in 1990 and one needed to take permission from the government to keep it.
Singh had not procured the necessary permission, he said. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, nicknamed Tiger Pataudi, captained India in 40 matches. He made his Test debut in 1961 and played his last Test in 1975.
