Veteran actress Ava Mukherjee, known for playing Shah Rukh Khan's grandmother in Devdas has passed away the age of 88. Ava, had played the grandmother onscreen in several films. Ava, is also the mother of filmmaker Romilla Mukherjee. Ava, Bollywood and ad world's 'favourite grandma' appeared in several television ads playing the synonymous grandma.

She also starred in the 2009 oddballs suspense-comedy Detective Nani, where she played a character similar to Agatha Christie's Miss Marple who has an eye for solving mysteries. In an interview to The Hindu, Ava had spoken how she loved it when children on the roads recognize her as 'dadima'.
One of her final appearances on the big screen was in the film 'Darna Zaroori Hai' directed by Ram Gopal Varma.
