Ajit Wadekar, the formeru00a0 India captain, was proud after a stand at Indore's Holkar Cricket Stadium was named after him yesterday. It's the first time that a stand has been named after Wadekar, who led India to historic triumphs in the West Indies and England in 1971.

Incidentally, Indore was also the first city to have signatures of Wadekar and his teammates on 'Vijay Balla'u00a0-- a gigantic concrete structure of a bat. "It is a proud feeling to have a stand named after you. Indore has always given me these special moments in life to treasure. I am humbled by their gesture," Wadekar told
MiD DAY yesterday.

However, the 70-year-old batsman was hurt that Mumbai has named nothing after him as yet. "It hurts sometimes," he said. "After being a part of the Ranji Trophy team that won 15 years on the trot, there is no stand or tournament named after me," added Wadekar.
