Residents of the 23 villages, which are part of the pilot plan for Navi Mumbai airport, will protest the project; say CIDCO hasn’t compensated farmers in return for their land acquired to build Navi Mumbai in the ’70s
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) continues to have a tough time since it floated its pilot plan of the proposed Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) to the Project Affected People (PAP). Now, the residents of the 23 villages that fall under the project may not co-operate with the agency and cited their unpleasant experience with the body as the reason.
The villagers alleged that CIDCO is yet to compensate the farmers whose lands were acquired during the planning of Navi Mumbai city in the 1970s.

GD Gharat, a representative of the 23 villages in Panvel taluka falling under NAINA, said, “During land acquisition in the ’70s, CIDCO promised farmers jobs and appropriate rewards. However, till today, the families of the affected people continue doing odd jobs to make ends meet. We now plan to protest NAINA.”
Vice Chairman and Managing Director of CIDCO, Sanjay Bhatia, said, “The locals have not understood NAINA’s concept. We will dispatch a team to the villages to explain the project to them in detail.”
Vishal Patil, a resident of the village, Nehre, said, “Until appropriate compensation is not allocated to us, in writing, we will continue to oppose the plan.”
