Mumbai's headbangers, rejoice! Legendary Rock band Guns N' Roses, are on their maiden Indian tour. Axl Rose, lead guitarist and lone original band member, gets candid about India and his music, in an email interview

Welcome to the jungle

What finally prompted you to come to India?
I’ve always wanted to play in India. We tried to make that happen earlier, but for whatever reasons it hadn’t worked out. We’re all very excited and are looking forward to coming here and performing live. I’ve wanted to travel to and play in India since before GNR, in any capacity. I don’t exactly know why it didn’t come together sooner. Hopefully, it’s the right time now. Seems so, so far. I’m very glad we have the opportunity. I know it will be an adventure. I hope it goes well for everyone — for the fans and us, and that we will be able to return sooner than later.

What can the audience expect from your performance? Will we see any special acts, for India?
We intend to give the best show we can on any given night — doing so, is important to us. In regard to something special, we may do something. It would be as much for ourselves as for the fans to keep things from getting stale for everyone.

Your last album came in 2008; when do you plan to release a new album? Why such a long wait?
We haven’t decided anything at the moment. All I can say right now is that it’s in the future.

The current line-up includes Axl Rose, Bumblefoot, Dizzy Reed, Bryan Mantia, Robin Finck, Thomas Sinson, Ricard Fortus and Chris Pitman

Guns N Roses has always been very popular in India; do you have any Indian musicians who are your favourites?
It is something I intend to explore.

Are there any collaborations on the cards with Indian musicians?
There is always the possibility of collaborations anywhere with nearly anyone.
