The Western Railway (WR) will start targeting people who travel in footboard and on rooftop from July 2
The Western Railway (WR) will start targeting people who travel on footboards and on rooftops from July 2. The railway police of WR will begin the drive that will go on till September end. Sources said that they would be sending plain clothed men and have already prepared 10 different teams for the same.
“We would be catching those who cause nuisance by traveling on the footboard. Our men in plain clothe will keep a watch,” said Anandvijay Jha, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner (Mumbai), WR.
Till May 2016, the Railway Police Force of WR have already caught 1562 people under section 156 of Railway Act and collected fines amounting to Rs 5.52 lakh. In 2014, they had booked 1648 people and fetched fine of Rs 3.76 lakh while in 2015, they caught 2364 people and collected fines amounting to Rs 8.24 lakh. The officials will be travelingin local trains wherein they would target those groups as well who purposely disallow people from boarding or alighting; which is a common sight.
