'What's the best way to tell my crush I like him?'

Dr LoveI want to tell this guy that I have strong feelings for him, but I'm hesitating because I don't really know if he's single or not. It will be embarrassing if he's not single. What should I do?
Why can't you try and spend some time with him casually before telling him how you feel? What's stopping you from asking him out for a cup of coffee and trying to find out more about his personal life before making any decision? It's not embarrassing if you simply talk about other things until you get to know him better.

My boyfriend and I have been together for two years now, and he doesn't remember my birthday. Since we got together, I have organised two parties for his birthdays, including one surprise party that involved a lot of planning and coordination. I have got him thoughtful gifts that he has appreciated a lot, but he hasn't done a single thing for my birthday. It's almost impossible to forget someone's birthday these days because you get all sorts of alerts on your phone, so he doesn't even have a valid excuse. Maybe he just doesn't value me enough to care about something like this and, even though it sounds like a small thing, I am very upset about it. What should I do?
He doesn't really have a reason to forget, unless he wilfully chooses not to celebrate birthdays. Either way, it is perfectly okay to be upset about this, because it's usually the small things that go on to derail a relationship. Ask him why he doesn't think your birthday is important, if he is okay with you not celebrating his own birthday and if he values you enough. It's important to you, which means he ought to value it. Talk about it though, because allowing it to simmer won't help. He's probably unaware of how this is making you feel, so I suggest you make it very obvious that his nonchalance is not okay.
