Amitabh Bachchan was supposed to attend the opening ceremony of the weeklong Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2015 on Saturday evening. But Abhishek Bachchan turned up in his place. Reason? A back sprain forced Big B to back out of the event at the last minute.

A source says, "Amitabh Bachchan had committed to be present at the opening ceremony with his Shamitabh co-star Akshara Haasan. However, that morning, he ended up hurting his back during his regular workout. He was then advised bed rest and could not attend the opening gala of the festival."

With Big B retiring hurt, son Abhishek decided to fill in for his father and made an appearance in the evening along with Akshara. A source says, "The Bachchans are known for their professionalism and punctuality. Mr Bachchan did not want to create problems for the organisers by pulling out of the event at the last minute. So, since Abhishek was present in town for one of his commitments in the afternoon, he headed off straight to the festival inauguration."

While Sr Bachchan's spokesperson confirms the news, the actor also announced it online in a post that read: "Pulled back muscle at gym .. arrgh ... will not be going for opening of KalaGhoda fest .. in bed resting pain ..(sic).
