Wife trouble

The Tata Theatre is buzzing with activity, even when there is no audience for once. The rehearsals of Paritossh Painter's ongoing play Get Rid Of My Wife are on full swing, when CS drops by.

The cast is gung ho and excitedly rehearsing their lines as they wait for colleague Smita Bansal to arrive. Here's a sneak peek:

The plot

"This is a comedy about three guys who are blind, deaf and mute and in need of a quick buck.

In order to pay off the local goon Mario Miranda, they decide to kidnap the wife of a rich businessman, played by Smita Bansal. But hell breaks loose when Smita, instead of being scared, is thrilled to be kidnapped. And she ends up calling the shots," explains Paritossh.

What's happening?

The first scene is a comic banter where the mute Manav (played by Jayesh Thakkar) tries to explain something to the deaf Adi (played by Paritossh).

The subsequent entry of Shri (played by Balvinder Singh Suri) is a laugh riot. The three actors work diligently on getting the timing right, while Paritossh is also concentrating on the technical aspects, like light and sound.

We have now moved to the next sequence where Mario Miranda (Nasir Khan) makes his entry on stage. As this is a grand rehearsal, all the actors are dressed for the part.

Nasir in a livewire on the stage, pacing up and down and saying his lines with the right expressions. Like Paritossh, Jayesh is also on cue, correcting his co-actors when the timing is a little awry.

By now, Smita has arrived and joins the action.

All this while, actor Tanya Abrol aka Inspector Chautala is cooling her heels backstage.
