Will follow DMRC advice on metro: Standing Committee

Rail corridor will be underground only where required, final decision will be spelt out by technical consultant appointed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will have the final say on where the metro corridors in the city will be underground and where these will be elevated, said Standing Committee chairperson Ganesh Bidkar yesterday.
Talking to the media, Bidkar said the DMRC had better expertise in handling metro rail systems and had been specially appointed by the Pune Municipal Corporation to chalk out the city's metro plan.

Final word: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has been appointed by the
PMC to chalk out the metro plan for the Pune

"Any wrong decision on the metro will stall the project further and deprive citizens of an important transport system that they have been waiting for long. The detailed project eeports and other studies have already been conducted and revisiting the drawing board will consume more time, sending us back to square one.

The Standing Committee has therefore taken a stand wherein we will follow what the technical and financial consultants appointed by the DMRC advise. The metro will be elevated and underground wherever required," Bidkar said.u00a0u00a0

The NCP apparently made a complete volte-face on its stand and demanded an underground metro, creating a major political controversy.
