Woman cop complains of being manhandled at Lalbaugcha Raja
The lack of crowd management skills at Lalbaugcha Raja is causing troubles to devotees and police officials on duty
A woman constable filed an application at the Kalachowkie police station yesterday, alleging that she had been manhandled by a female volunteer while she was on duty at the pandal.
The incident occurred on Monday, when the female volunteer tried to get her friends to skip the serpentine queue and go for the darshan. When Kavita Palekar, the constable on duty, tried to stop the volunteer from doing so, an argument broke out. It turned physical and the volunteer allegedly manhandled Palekar.
Palekar is attached to the local arms department of the Mumbai police. Police officials at Kalachowkie area said that they would inquire into the matter and only then would they register an FIR.
MiD DAY had reported on a mandal worker abusing and manhandling a police sub-inspector on duty at Lalbaugcha Raja (‘PSI at Lalbaug abused by mandal worker’, September 17). The volunteer, Manoj Mishra, was identified with the help of CCTV footage and was arrested. He has been released on bail.
