Irrespective of whether a woman is a working professional or not, vanity is a woman's prerogative. She needs the classy stuff to stand out at work, and the bling factor to shine at a party. We list out some of the items that must find a place in your closet.

Woman's day: Wardrobe essentials for you

1. Foot first
Black closed shoes can be worn with any western outfit, while Indian footwear must be coupled with Indian outfits. Stick to simple colours with minimum embellishments. Nude and black heels are a life-saver for many.

2. Blazer to the rescue
A blazer for formal occasions/parties and trips abroad. Make sure you have a blazer that fits well. Keep it well-covered in its case on a hanger so that whenever you use it, it looks fresh. It will also give a formal look to your otherwise casual jeans and T-shirt attire.

3. Desi days
Solid coloured Indian wear. This could be a dark blue/black/bright red salwar/churidar kurta or a saree. In case of a traditional party or reception, it makes a style statement. A rich dupatta, either embroidered or in silk is also a handy accessory. Couple them with solid coloured kurtas for the festive occasions at work. For instance, a Diwali or Dussehra party.

4. Casual fun
You need some casual wear for weekends/outings. Jeans and casual tops for half days. A daily bag which can carry your essentials is also a must. This could be in black, brown, dark blue or even red if you have the attitude to sport it. Simple jewellery like diamond studs, pendants and bracelets look good on most days.

5. Formal affair
White shirts. Make it two or even more in different fabrics like linen, silks etc. These are best for important meetings or conferences. Invest in black trousers or skirts in fabrics that appears fresh (wrinkle-free). Check buttons and hooks always, especially after washing them.

6. The LBD
The little black dress could be sensible depending on the party or your age. Better to wear something more subtle than go for something really little that appears atrocious even at a party. You wouldn't want people talking about you the next day.

7. Signature style
If you are one of the those who loves to experiment, be a little careful. An expensive clutch or a statement jewellery piece can really make you stand out. But be careful about not going overboard with them.

Jazz up
A couple of scarves or stoles can help you change your formal appearance in a hurry. If you have worn your white shirt and black trousers, and have a important meeting with a client in the evening at a hotel, then wearing the stole/scarf will soften the look making it an ideal evening dress. So, get those colourful scarves. u00a0
