A 28-year-old insurance professional was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her residence in Vasant Kunj area on Wednesday night.

Family of the deceased, Swati Sharma, alleged her in-laws murdered her and police have registered a case of dowry death. Swati worked as an administrative officer in an insurance company.

According to the police, she went to her room on Wednesday night and did not answer the repeated knocks afterwards. When her husband Rakesh Yadav, a software engineer, also failed to open the door, he made a PCR call and informed the police.

"She was found hanging from a ceiling fan. We have registered a dowry death case, as she had been married for just two years. An SDM enquiry is going on," said a senior police official.

Swati lived with her husband, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and her year-old daughter. Her family, residents of Guwahati, were informed and they have arrived in the Capital.

The body will be handed over to the family on Friday morning. "She was murdered and they are trying to pretend that it is a suicide," a family member of the deceased alleged.
