Savita Dnyaneshwar Shelar (67) died after being run over by a PMPML bus on Tuesday night. The accident occurred on the overbridge near Chaphekar Chowk, and some thought that the woman, a resident of Model Colony, was killed while attempting to get down from the bus while others believed she had committed suicide.

Bus driver Prakash Bhaguji Kamble was arrested for rash and negligent driving resulting in the death of a person, and produced in court yesterday and later released on bail.
PI Pandharinath Patil of Shivajinagar police station said it was initially suspected that the victim got down from another bus on the over bridge and was struck by the one Kamble was driving while she was crossing the road. "The accident took place around 9.15 pm and according to Shelar's relatives she was returning to her residence in Model Colony after visiting relatives in Pimple Gurav," Patil said.
According to Kamble's police statement, the woman was attempting to cross the road, but darted back upon noticing a speeding car approaching from the opposite side and was run over.u00a0 "Shelar came under the right rear wheel of the bus and considering that the passenger doors are on the left side, it is unlikely that she was travelling in the same bus," Patil said.
