A woman tourist from Delhi drowned in the Ganga at Rishikesh when her raft overturned in the river on its way to Munikireti, police said today.

30-year-old Sahiba Ibrar Haq and other members of the rafting team fell into the river as her raft turned turtle at Club House Rapid, they said.

The guide of another raft coming from behind rescued the rafters one by one, but Sahiba could not be saved as too much water had entered into her system, they said.

She was rushed to the government hospital at Rishikesh where doctors declared her dead.

A resident of Okhla in the national capital, Sahiba was part of a 12 member rafting team from Delhi which had undertaken an expedition from Garurchatti to Munikireti.u00a0
