The civic body's attempt to help female politicos cool off proves futile since the 'study trip' sees only 50 per cent attendance
One hundred and twenty two female corporators got a chance to escape the scorching heat of Mumbai and go to Lonavla for a training session organised by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The civic body’s explanation was that since the temperature is soaring in the metropolitan, the session was conducted at the hill station.
However, the municipal corporation’s efforts to attract the women corporators proved futile as the training session, which was held from May 3-4, saw only 50 per cent turnout. While the representatives from the ruling party cited various reasons for skipping the event, corporators from the opposition parties such as Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and Nationalist Congress Party preferred to stay away.

The self-governance training session was organised to give vital tips to the women to solve the problems of their areas. An officer from the Municipal Secretary department, said, “We did not get the response we expected. Apart from the training session, we had also made lodging-boarding arrangements for the corporators, but many of them preferred going back home as they wanted to finish important work.”
However, former mayor Dr Shubha Raul, who attended the session, said, “There were few opposition party corporators who did not participate while some could not attend due to personal issues. But the training session was good and we will try and organise it next year too.”u00a0
