According to VB Nagar police, the deceased, Vijay Hamrao hailed from Jharkhand and was drunk at the time of the incident.

Since Vijay fell into the 9.5-foot ditch while his co-workers were asleep, no one knew how he drowned.

After being discovered by other workers at the site the following morning, Hamrao was taken to Sion Hospital at around 8:45 am where he was declared dead on arrival.

The viscera was sent to a lab in Kalina to determine the exact cause of his death.

A case of accidental death has been registered in VB Nagar police station as no foul play was suspected in this case.

A sub-inspector from VB Nagar police station said, “His friend informed us that he had been drinking that night, and it is possible he could have slipped and fallen into the elevator opening on the ground floor.”

“Once the post mortem results are out, we will find out if he was intoxicated at the time of the accident,” he added.u00a0
