Caroline Wozniacki, playing her first match since losing her world number one ranking, was knocked out of the Qatar Open yesterday, going down 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7/3) to Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic.

Caroline Wozniacki, playing her first match since losing her world number one ranking, was knocked out of the Qatar Open yesterday, going down 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7/3) to Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic.

Wozniacki, seeded two but now ranked at four in the world, was deposed from the top spot when she was knocked out of the Australian Open quarter-finals.

Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, who won the title in Melbourne, took over the world top ranking and is the top seed here.
