50-year-old dies in accident on dangerous Palm Beach road

The killer Palm Beach road claimed another victim after a speeding car rammed into a bike killing a 50-year-old.

In yet another accident on the Palm Beach Road, a 50-year-old biker was killed after a speeding car (MH 43-AF-6264) rammed his two-wheeler from behind near Sarsole Junction on Tuesday evening.

Vikhroli-resident Keshav Gavande, a custom clearing agent, was travelling to Belapur on his bike in the afternoon and had stopped at the Sarsole junction traffic signal when the accident occurred.

According to eyewitnesses, the impact of the collision threw Gavande onto the traffic signal pole. They also alleged that the car while escaping the accident spot reportedly crushed Gavande. Gavande was rushed to the nearest hospital by bystanders but he succumbed to his injuries at around 5.20 pm.

Sanjay Karlekar, doctor at Shushrisha hospital, where Gavande was admitted, said “When Gavande was admitted he had multiple injuries, especially on his lower abdomen. We tried our best but Gavande succumbed to his injuries at 5.20 am.”

The Nerul police rather than initiating a search of the car driver, waited to first record Gavande’s statement. And even after Gavande’s death, no offence was registered against the driver till nine in the night. Sources said, the car driver, whose surname is believed to be Jain, resides in Kharghar.

Chandrakant Lange, assistant police inspector of Nerul Police, said, “We are still investigating the matter and a case will be registered soon. However, we do not know the name of car driver.”

A case has been registered against unknown persons under sections 279, 304A, 338 of the IPC and 134 and 184 of Motor Vehicle Act.
