12-year-old dies trying to save brother from assault
Victim's attempt to break up fight between brother and his friend ends with her being fatally stabbed
A 12-year-old girl lost her life while trying to save her brother in a street fight at Aarey colony in Goregaon yesterday evening. The police have arrested three men, who had staged the attack on the deceased’s brother, on charges of murder.
At around 8.30 pm on Monday, a friendly chat between two friends at Sector 7 in Aarey Colony turned ugly. After a casual conversation between Vijay Raj (18) and the deceased’s brother David Charles turned into an argument, the accused Raj, returned with his associates, Tiru Pargam (19) and Tamil Asral (21) and began assaulting Charles.
Uttam More, senior police inspector of Aarey police station, said, “Suddenly, all three accused started beating David and when the latter’s sister Julie tried to intervene, she was stabbed in the leg. The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead.”
Following the incident, the police arrested the accused under Sections 302 (murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 of the IPC. They trio was produced at Borivli court and were later remanded in police custody.
