A 19-Year old college girl was crushed to death under the wheels of a BEST bus in Bhandup (West) yesterday
The second year college student was on a bike with her friend when he suddenly lost control and they fell off the bike on the busy road. While trying to get up, a bus ran over her, killing her instantly.
The victim identified as Suranya Kaudan was riding pillion on her friend Balan Murugan’s bike when the incident took place at LBS Marg in Bhandup. According to Balan’s statement, he was heading out for some work when he met Suranya, who was on her way to private tuitions.

He offered her a lift. They were near Jainam Hall around 3.30 pm when a BEST bus ahead of them took a sharp left turn. The sudden turn forced Balan to lose control and the two of them fell down. While Balan fell on the left side of the road, Suranya was thrown on to the path of oncoming traffic.
Suranya got up and tried to dust herself off, when another BEST bus emerged from behind and mowed her down. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors. Balan escaped with a few minor bruises.
Senior Inspector Shrirang Nadgauda, Bhandup police station, said, “We have taken down statements from Balan and other eyewitnesses.” He added, “It seems that Balan lost control due to a bus ahead of them. We have registered a case against an unknown bus driver and are investigating the case.”u00a0
