A Kandivli-based stockbroker was found murdered in the Anand district of Gujarat on Wednesday night. According to the police, the man was on his way from Gujarat to Mumbai but was killed near Vasna village in Borsad. The deceased, Mukti Shah (58), was a successful stockbroker and lived with his family at Koushal Apartments, Shankar lane, in Kandivli (W). A family member said, “Shah was a very independent person and preferred to travel alone. He compared himself to a tiger.” The police said that since no one knew about his visit to Gujarat, they had no leads to determine possible suspects.

Shah, who frequently visited Anand district, drove to Gujarat in his white Maruti Swift a few days ago. The Borsad police said that around 9.30 pm on Wednesday , they got a call from the control room about a body lying near a car. A police team rushed to the spot and found Shah’s body lying a few metres away from his car.

A police officer from Borsad police station said, “A lot of blood was found in the car, and even a few metres away along the road. There were several stab wounds on his body. It is suspected that after getting stabbed while he was in his car, Shah crawled for a few metres, looking for help.”

The police said that gold rings, a chain, hard cash, a credit card and several other items were retrieved from Shah’s person. Personal documents were also found in his car, which helped the police get in touch with Shah’s family in Mumbai. Shocked family members took a flight and reached Anand district in the wee hours of Thursday. The police sent Shah’s body for a post-mortem after his family identified it.

Shah’s body was brought to the city by private ambulance on Thursday night and his last rites will be performed today. the police said they suspected personal enmity in business as a possible motive, and are now examining Shah’s cell phone records. The Gujarat police will now come to Mumbai for taking statements of close aides.
