Victim was playing at the doorstep of the accused when he invited her inside and sexually assaulted her; police have arrested the 19-year-old
A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 19-year-old youth after the victim landed up at the doorstep of the accused while she was playing outside her house in Ghatkopar on Thursday afternoon. The accused has been identified as Jaffer Ahmad Shaikh who recently arrived to the city from Uttar Pradesh to look for a job.

“Shaikh arrived in Mumbai three days ago and has been staying with his three friends at a rented room in Ghatkopar,” said a police officer from Ghatkopar police station. According to the police, the victim was playing near the entrance of Shaikh’s room when he was exercising. Shaikh asked the girl to come inside, as none of his roommates were present, he allegedly raped her.
The incident came to light after the victim went home and her mother noticed blood stains on her dress and began inquiring. The victim confided in her mother and narrated the entire episode. The mother and daughter then went to the accused’s room to confront him about the incident. “She saw Shaikh washing his bloodstained clothes and the victim pointed out to the accused.
The neighbours then got hold of the accused, while the mother took the victim to KEM hospital after which the police were informed about the incident. After we received the information, we immediately went to the hospital in order to take the victim’s statement, but we couldn’t because of her condition,” said the officer.
The accused was arrested yesterday and has been booked under section 376 (Punishment for rape) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the Indian Penal code. He was later presented in court and has been remanded in police custody.
