Inspired by stories of chain snatching published in newspapers, 21-year-old Imran Ansari thought the trade was the easiest way to make quick money.

According to SPI Abdul Rauf Shaikh, Imran was a class XII dropout and a resident of Sai Siddhi Apartments at Malwani, who watched television shows to learn the modus operandi of chain snatchers. He realised that a motorbike was a necessity for the trade, and began stealing to raise money to buy a bike.

On October 19, Imran succeeded in snatching a chain in Malwani area. However, the victim gave chase and nabbed Imran. He was later handed over to the Malwani police.

According to the cops, they have solved three cases in which Imran was involved, and have recovered the booty.

Imran has been charged under Section 379 (Punishment for theft) of the IPC and has been remanded to police custody.
