Yoghurt, the key to glowing skin?

A new yoghurt-based skincare line has reignited the beauty industry's interest in dairy skincare.

American skincare line Dairyface launched online in October, and this month it's arriving in stores across the US.

The company's founder, Oksana Panasenko, became interested in yoghurt skin treatment as a teenager, after a friend encouraged her to use a mixture of fermented dairy products and herbs to treat acne.

After formulating her own remedy, Oksana moved to Canada in 2006 where she collaborated with cosmetic chemists and dairy microbiologists to come up with the Dairyface line.

The debut collection comprises a Nourishing Facial Refresher, available in flavors such as Green Tea Magic, made from olive, almond, apricot and avocado oils with green tea and probiotic yoghurt.

Prices begin at $19 for a pack of two creams, which have been designed to stay fresh in the fridge for up to six weeks.

Currently, Dairyface is only shipping in the US, although international shipping is coming soon. In the meantime, there are plenty of YouTube tutorials on how to make skincare products using items from the fridge.

This eHow video explains how to make a honey yoghurt face mask using easily available ingredients.

Or if yogurt doesn't appeal there are other quirky food-and-drink-based beauty lines to explore, including Barista Bath and Body's coffee based line and even Farginnay's bacon perfume.
