Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said the state government was looking forward to promote electric vehicles on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to tackle the problem of smog during winters. Forty electric buses will soon ply in the state capital, Adityanath said at the launch of five electric vehicles by Mahindra Electric.

"By running these eco-friendly vehicles, a large amount of money spent on import of fuel, diesel and petrol will be saved," Yogi said. He added that his government was willing to extend all cooperation to the eco-friendly vehicles if private players come forward. He, however, told the manufacturers of this nascent industry that for the success of electric vehicles, they will have to be technologically more sound and make the vehicles simpler, cheaper and socially acceptable.

Adityanath also informed that during the Investors' Summit being organised in the city on February 21-22, one of the focus sectors will be electric vehicles, saying the industrialists have shown interest in this sector.
