Mumbai's AC local train is likely to be split. Railway top bosses, Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal and Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani, on a Mumbai visit on Friday, hinted that the AC train with high fares could be split into two classes - an affordable one for the common man and an expensive higher class.

They, however, added that the city, henceforth, would get only AC locals and 250-odd trains would be manufactured. The announcement comes following grumbling of "high" and "unaffordable" AC local fare by commuters. "The splitting up is an idea, and the local railways has been asked to work on it, so that a proposal can be finalised," Lohani told the media.
