A young man was stabbed to death by four persons in a south Delhi park when he resisted their attempts to snatch his mobile phone and wallet, police said on Sunday. Naresh, 22, a B.Tech. degree holder but working as a waiter in a restaurant in south Delhi, had gone to visit the park in Tughlakabad with a female friend on Saturday evening when he was stabbed. Naresh was a resident of Trilokpuri in east Delhi.

"Naresh was strolling with his friend when the four accused accosted them and tried to snatch his valuables at knife-point. Following an altercation, they stabbed him over half a dozen times and escaped with his cell phone and wallet," Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said. The woman friend informed police from the mobile phone of a security guard deployed at the park. Naresh was taken to Hamdard Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A murder case has been registered against the accused and some youths have been detained for questioning. Some suspects have been identified. The woman told police that the accused threatened to kill her too when she tried to intervene. "Some park visitors were present but no one dared to help Naresh," the police official added.
