Hyderabad: A 20-year-old student hailing from Maharashtra allegedly committed suicide at his hostel room in RTC Cross Roads here reportedly over "failed love affair", police said.

Tanuj Devangan, who was studying in second year B.Com in a private college and staying in hostel, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his room last night, Chikadpally Police Station Sub-Inspector M Mallaiah said. His roommates later found Tanuj hanging in the room and alerted the police.

Police found some love letters from his room. "Based on the information available, he is a native of Nashik. It seems he committed suicide apparently due to love failure," Mallaiah said adding his father is an Army officer and serving in Uttarakhand.

His family members were informed about the incident and are on their way to Hyderabad. A case under section 174 CrPC was registered.

Further investigation into the case is on.
