Rutuja’s relatives alleged that she and her cousin were forced to walk on road as Singh Cycle Mart had encroached upon the footpath. The deceased was a resident of Kasba Peth.

Her aunt Haripriya Praveen Shinde of Kasba Peth had lodged a complaint at the Faraskhana police station. Rutuja's parents are physically challenged and father Nishant Londhe was recently appointed as a peon in the irrigation department.
According to the police officials, Haripriya’s son and Rutuja studied at the Kids Happy House School, located above the cycle showroom.

While the toddler's her grandparents would drop the kids to the school, Haripriya would pick them up. “As usual, Haripriya and the two kids were walking back home when a PMPML bus (MH 12 CH 4135), travelling from Lal Mahal to Phadke Haud, hit Rutuja from behind and she came under its rear wheels. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital, but was declared dead on arrival,” a police official said.

Rutuja’s uncle Praveen said the showroom officials had put cycle rings and other materials on the footpath, thus blocking it. This forced Rutuja and others walk on the road.u00a0
