70-yr-old man sodomises teenager, circulates MMS
The accused, a masjid trustee, lured the 13-yr-old girl to a madarsa with the promise of a poem he had written for her, locked her in, and violated her; locals showed video clipping to the teen's parents
A 70-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly sodomising a 13-year-old girl a month back. The accused, identified as Niyaz Ahmad Hasan Raza, had even made an MMS of the act, which he later circulated among his friends.
According to the police, Niyaz is a trustee of Bilal Masjid at Dumping Road in Govandi. The victim too is a resident of the area. In his statement, the victim’s father said that while he was going home after work on Wednesday, a friend in conversation with him asked if he had seen the MMS being circulated in the area, with footage of his daughter being abused.
Shocked, he and his wife approached the teenager. The complaint was then registered with the Shivaji Nagar police station on Wednesday at 10.45 pm. Speaking to MiD DAY, Police sub-inspector Amol Shinde said, “We arrested Niyaz at 3.05 am on Thursday, immediately after the complaint was lodged by the father. We apprehended him from a madarsa next to Bilal Masjid. We are probing whether he has committed any such acts in the past.”
According to cops, the victim, accompanied by two of her friends, was going to school to appear for an exam. Niyaz accosted them, and told them that he had composed a nazm (poem) for them and asked if they would like to hear it. The trio agreed, and walked with him towards the first floor of the madarsa. As soon as the 13-year-old entered the room, he shut her in. Seeing this, her friends panicked and fled from the spot. Niyaz then sodomised the teenager.
“Investigations are on to determine if there were more people involved in the crime. It is a shocking episode, given their age difference. We will be sending her to a counsellor so that she regains her confidence,” said Qauiser Khalid, additional commissioner of police (east region).
The accused has been booked under several sections of the IPC 377 for unnatural sex, 354 for assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modest, 294 for singing, recitation or utterance of any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place, 506 for criminal intimidation. He has also been booked under Section 67 (B) of the IT Act. The accused was produced in Kurla court and has been remanded in police custody till January 17.
