The Sweden captain, who has scored a club record 40 goals in all competitions this season, came off midway through the second half of their quarter-final, first-leg win clutching the back of his right thigh and has been undergoing tests to determine the extent of the problem. “He will be back and he will play again for PSG this season,” said Blanc.
Blanc said he didn’t know whether the injury was a tear or a strain, but it seems that Ibrahimovic, who leads the Ligue 1 scoring charts with 25 goals, is definitely ruled out of the second leg at Stamford Bridge on next Tuesday and potentially an eventual semi-final, as well as the French League Cup final against Lyon on April 19.
The Ligue 1 season is due to end on the weekend of May 17-18, while the Champions League final will be played in Lisbon on May 24.
“I spoke to the doctor yesterday (Thursday). With a muscle injury like that you can’t always tell precisely how long someone will be out. You need to see how it responds,” continued Blanc. “We’ll see in the next few days but the medical staff will do a good job of looking after it.”
