A Cancer Conclave Organized By A Social Enterprise And NGO Involving Specialized Oncologists, Health & Policy Experts, And Industry To Improve The Outcomes In Cancer Treatment.

1) Where did the idea to organize such a gathering come from? Give us some more information on the conclave.

Upaho, a company dedicated to meeting the functional, social, emotional, financial, and physical requirements of cancer sufferers, is one of the event's organisers. Over the past few years, we conducted surveys with more than 1500 cancer patients, learning about a number of unresolved issues and their various solutions. This gave us the idea to host a conclave where all the important stakeholders that have an impact on the lives of cancer patients may attend and share their experiences and suggestions to further improve the results. This is the inaugural meeting of the conclave, which will be held annually on February 4th. The objective is to discuss, plan, and assess the impact annually.

2) Why is focusing on cancer and its recent discoveries the need of the hour?

Cancer incidences are rising significantly and there are a lot of developments happening in this domain of healthcare. The noteworthy thing is the majority (up to 80 percentage) of cancers are preventable and if detected early, we can not only save patients' life/ quality of life but reduce financial burden too. For example, in the case of diabetes, someone getting detected in childhood/ adulthood or later part of life, the treatment modalities are more or less the same based on the confirmation of diagnosis and severity of the disease but, in the case of say lung cancer, it is necessary to know whether it is small cell or non - small cell, which mutation, which grade and which stage, etc of cancer it is, and the treatment options and cost may vary from a few thousand per month to 4-5 lakhs per month. The cost burden of the disease on family, society and the country is extremely high which can be prevented in a certain set of cancer through appropriate discussions and awareness.

3) How will this conclave pave the way for better treatment outcomes for the community?

Since the purpose of this conclave is to discuss the evolution and advancements made in the field of cancer, we hope to share the unique knowledge that each of us have gained through our own research and inform one another of the challenges and resources that are available so that a lot can be changed. Discussing the capabilities and limitations of cancer and its discoveries, we hope to come up with new opportunities and solutions to treat cancer and support the cancer patient physically as well as emotionally. The way cancer is now managed may change as a result of creating a broader community and supporting initiatives from people in various domains.

4) What are some prominent topics that are going to be discussed in the conclave?

The primary subject of the conclave is the treatment of cancer and what more can be done to treat it. Along with these topics, the gathering will also talk about early cancer detection and screening, ongoing cancer research, how it can raise more funds for resources, the difficulties caregivers face, the function of charitable hospitals, drug development and clinical trials, government initiatives for cancer research, and how various industries can work together to improve the lives of cancer patients and caregivers.

5) Can you name a few eminent speakers in the conclave?

There are more than 20 eminent speakers across various domains invited in this conclave to express their views and opinion toward the advancement and treatment of cancer. Among them, Ms. Urvashi Prasad (Director - Niti Aayog) and Mr. Naveen Kumar, IAS, Special Secretary Health, Government of Andhra Pradesh are going to be the Guest of Honour.
