When we hear the word cartoon, in most instances, our favorite cartoon character comes to mind, especially for Millennials who grew up watching cartoons in cable television as their sole mode of entertainment. Many will agree that those were the best moments of life and for those memorable moments we have to give a lot of credit to Ssoftoons Entertainment Media LLP, and its co-founder Mrs. Hansa Dangaich Mondal.
Ssoftoons which was formed in 2001 is one of India’s leading animation production house and they are responsible for bringing iconic characters like Gopal Bhar, Pandav Goyenda, Mollah Nasiruddin, Nonte Fonte, Lullu, Nut Boltu, Panchatantra, and Hing Ting Chat to the television screen and subsequently in new age digital platforms as well. The company was formed by Mrs. Hansa Dangaich Mondal and Mr. Sourav Mondal with the vision of creating quality animation content which people could easily relate to and they have footprint and distribution spanning across India, with its branches in Kolkata, Mumbai & Howrah. The brand has worked with prominent regional television channels like Sony Aath, Aakash Bangla, DD 1 and Ruposhi Bangla to name a few. Their successful stint in the regional market allowed them to expand and work for National Channels like Sony Yay, Nickelodeon and Disney.

She started Ssoftoons with her husband Sourav Mondal in Howrah, West Bengal, and within a decade the company was extremely successful in the regional market. To get a large portion of the market share, she decided on retaining the IPs and aired them on YouTube under the channel name Ssoftoons Animation which in turn became a huge hit among the audience. All this lead Hansa to Mumbai where she pitched numerous projects to National Channels and succeeded in bagging a project with Sony Yay in the form of Paapometer. With this Ssoftoons eventually worked with numerous channels creating innumerable characters and memories. Hansa and Ssoftoons are currently working in association with Disney India and at her current position of COO at Ssoftoons, she undertakes planning and execution.
Speaking about her journey, Hansa says, “When we first started there were no major player in this segment who were making quality cartoons. We were the first to go mainstream and work with channels in bringing such content to the masses. In spite of many hurdles, Ssoftoons never looked back and gifted millions of smiles in the face of millennial and generation Z. We brought a complete change in the animation industry by serving educative, fun and quality content in local languages.”
Speaking about the future plans she went to add, “We have worked with a lot of regional and national channels. We have recently worked with Disney where they brought our creation Twinkle Sharma #007 and will be showcasing it in their platform. We are also growing strongly on YouTube and have more than 16mn subscribers and over 4bn views. Our main aim is to make our creations reach as much people as possible and bring a smile to their faces”.
