Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth

Have you heard? Shhhh…. Shaadi ho gayi?

Shhhh…. Shaadi ho gayi? After confirming their relationship on social media earlier this year, south star Siddharth and Aditi Rao Hydari are now rumoured to have secretly tied the knot. Secret because they didn’t invite us. The two actors are said to have gotten married on Wednesday morning at the Sri Ranganayaka Swamy Temple in Wanaparthy’s Srirangapuram in Telangana. Aditi and Siddharth have not yet made an official announcement about the nuptials. Then again, knowing how private the two are, we wouldn’t be too surprised if they released pictures only on their first wedding anniversary. When Alia’s heart beats for kids She rules Bollywood and is slowly inching her way into the West with Hollywood projects and social events. In the latest update, we hear that Alia Bhatt is set to host the Hope Gala event in London. The event, set to kickstart today, is held in partnership with the Mandarin Oriental hotel group at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London. The event is designed to lend support to Alia’s chosen charity, Salaam Bombay, which rehabilitates and empowers children in leadership and other in-school activities. Homecoming After a 20-day shoot schedule, director Vignesh Shivan returned home to actor-wife Nayanthara and their children, Uyir and Ulag. Nayanthara, who made her Bollywood debut with Jawan last year, took to Instagram and wrote, “Can’t explain how we three felt when we saw you after a long 20 days of schedule! We really missed you! I love you, my everything.” So cute! Only recently, there were rumours that the couple had split when people noticed Nayanthara unfollowing Vignesh, but it turns out their marriage is not on the rocks. Take that, haters! All is well In 2023, we heard enough and more about Nawazuddin Siddiqui and estranged wife Aaliya’s arguments over their children’s custody. They criticised each other on social media and during interviews. However, it seems like the dust has finally settled on the disagreements between the two. In a recent post, Aaliya wrote sweet nothings to celebrate their wedding anniversary. She wrote, “Celebrating 14 years of wedded bliss with my one and only.” In an interview, Aaliya hinted that the misunderstandings between them were caused by a third party. She reportedly added, “We decided that we are not going to fight and will live together, peacefully.” All we can say is, dudho nahao, phulo phalo! Working his arms off Every actor is expected to do their due diligence before a film. For Chandu Champion, Kartik Aaryan  trained in boxing for 14 months. He plays a Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar in the Kabir Khan-directed venture. Kartik followed a strict fitness regime in which he shed 20 kilos and quit sugar as part of a tailored diet. This is the first time he has stepped into a physically demanding role. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like Kartik can go back to eating sugar until the film releases. Mandodari to Yash’s Raavan It’s an unlikely jodi and we are not sure what the result would be like. But we are excited to hear that Sakshi Tanwar is rumoured to play Kannada star Yash’s wife in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. The film, also starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, will apparently have Sakshi essaying the role of a sensitive and demure Mandodari to Yash’s Raavan. Having worked with the director in Dangal (2016), we doubt she would have any problems playing the role, but will this chemistry work? Guess we’ll have to wait to find that out.

Richa Chadha with Ali Fazal

Celebrating Lucknow’s legacy

Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s love for Lucknow’s crafts was evident as the two flaunted chikankari outfits at their reception in the latter’s hometown. Now, the actor-producer duo are set to launch a homegrown clothing line that puts the spotlight on the city’s artisans. From Banarasi sarees to Patola weaves, India is renowned for its different textiles and creations. However, the artisans behind the creations often face challenges that threaten their businesses. Keeping this in mind, the actor duo are developing the label that will celebrate the handcrafted weaves of Lucknow and empower the workers. Chadha says, “Ali and I have always admired the artistry and skill of local artisans, particularly those involved in crafting exquisite intricate work in textiles. It’s disheartening to witness the challenges they face in sustaining their craft. Through this venture, we aspire to provide a platform for these artisans to not only survive, but also thrive. Our goal is to celebrate the timeless art of zardozi and ensure its preservation for generations to come.” The duo, who are currently looking forward to the India release of their maiden production venture Girls Will Be Girls, are planning to launch the clothing business by the year-end.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is among the many films being shot in Maharashtra

Shoot at site order

On March 16, the Maharashtra government announced that shooting of films, documentaries, web series and advertisements will be allowed free of cost on government land in the state from April 1. The decision signals that the state is conducive to film production, making it an attractive and budget-friendly location. Abhay Sinha, president, Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA), says, “IMPPA was trying to convince the Maharashtra government to do something as producers were running to Uttar Pradesh, which offers huge subsidies. This move will help producers reduce their budgets, and will support the film industry’s growth in the state.”  While shooting will be free of charge, a nominal security deposit of Rs 40,000 for commercials, Rs 1 lakh for TV shows, and Rs 2.5 lakh for films and series will be required. Producers will be able to go through a single-window clearance to shoot anywhere in the state. The new scheme, however, doesn’t cover projects being shot in Film City, Goregaon, and the Film City in Kolhapur. Sinha adds, “This will be applicable not only for Hindi and Marathi films, but for regional language movies as well.” Trade analyst Atul Mohan is glad that the state government has kicked off the initiative. He says, “Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir have been offering incentives to producers. I guess it’s better late than never.”

A still from the film

Amit R Sharma: Today, I can even talk to Messi about football

Amit R Sharma’s last theatrical offering was the wonderful Badhaai Do (2018), which won multiple awards. The director has had to brave the pandemic, lockdowns and multiple delays to ready his next, Maidaan, led by Ajay Devgn. What has he learnt from the experience? “Patience,” says Sharma.  He believes that the biopic of Syed Abdul Rahim, who was the Indian football team’s coach and manager between 1950 and 1963, deserves time and care. If it took him five years to make it, so be it. “The story was such that I couldn’t detach myself. Even when we wrote the film, we didn’t want to do a rushed job. When we started out, Syed Abdul Rahim’s Wikipedia page had Jarnail Singh’s picture. We met [Rahim’s] son Hakim saab. When Rahim started out [as a coach], his motivation was solely that India should be recognised the world over.” Amit R Sharma and Syed Abdul Rahim Sharma is a cricket fan, like the majority of the Indian population. As he went ahead to tell the football coach’s story, it was the man, not the game that drew him. “I’ve played cricket all my life. When I said yes, it was for the charm of the man. I had to learn [so much]. The football rules of the ’50s were different. There was no foul, no red and yellow cards before. There were no substitutes for injured players. Novy Kapadia [football journalist and commentator] helped us capture the mood of the ’50s. Today, I can even talk to [Lionel] Messi about football.” The biggest challenge was to give the leading man memorable scenes even as he stayed off the field. “He is the mastermind [of the game], but how do you give him importance? He had to be the story’s hero. We worked on detailing. I didn’t want the people from the football team watching the film and saying it’s not authentic. Ajay trusted our vision.” In a crucial scene in the trailer, Devgn is seen giving a pep talk to the players. Tell him it feels similar to the memorable ‘sattar minute’ scene of Chak De India (2007), and Sharma notes, “But they are different films and different sports altogether. Football and hockey are sports where the coach plays a major role. You play mind games with the opposition. We devised game plans. Match scores are available on Google, but we had to make the five minutes [of each match] an edge-of-the-seat experience.”
