History doesn’t wait for witnesses, but Lee Miller refused to let it pass unrecorded. Set during the upheaval of World War II, Lee follows the extraordinary journey of Lee Miller, a former fashion model who traded fame and comfort to become one of the most fearless war correspondents of her time. In a commanding performance, Academy Award winner Kate Winslet steps into the life of a woman who refused to observe history from afar and instead chose to document it, often at great personal cost. Arriving in India on December 5, exclusively on Lionsgate Play, Lee delivers a story that feels both deeply historical and urgently relevant.

Andy Samberg on recreating a real-life moment

Talking about recreating the iconic bathtub scene, inspired by the real, historic photograph taken inside Adolf Hitler’s Munich apartment at the end of World War II, Andy Samberg reflected on the emotional and physical intensity of filming one of the most haunting moments in Lee, said, “We had been shooting all day already, and it was already really late when we started this section of it. We weren’t rushing by any means, but it was, everyone was tired, the crew was tired, and it actually lent itself really well to what we were playing, because we had just gone through hell in the movie, and reached this point, having discovered the trains, and walked through Dachau, and then going to Hitler’s apartment, and it was a lot of heavy stuff to shoot, and it all sort of culminates in this scene. All the production design on the movie was so incredible, and walking into this set was really no exception, and by the time you get to the actual taking of the photograph in the bathtub, when you compare them side by side, identical, and they really did a phenomenal job, and as an actor, it helps, it really does, because it feels so authentic, and you’re trying to do your best to do justice to it, and by it, and when all of those things are in place, it just shortens the gap between, you know, pretending.”

More about Lee

Along the way, Lee explores the woman behind the camera - her relationships, inner conflicts, and the emotional weight of witnessing history. The film does not look away from the devastation of war, but it also captures the fleeting human moments that survive within it. It is a portrait of strength, vulnerability, and the uneasy clarity that comes from seeing too much. Featuring standout performances from Alexander Skarsgård, Marion Cotillard, Josh O’Connor, Andrea Riseborough, Noémie Merlant, Samuel Barnett, and Andy Samberg alongside Kate, the film weaves a richly layered depiction of the world Miller inhabited, shaped by the collision of art, politics, love, and violence.
