Humour, as they say, is serious business. It is not easy to get it just right. So when you see someone hit perfection in their first attempt, you know you have come across a rare good phenomenon. Namita Das, debut author of the bestselling book “It’s Punny.. Oops, I mean Funny!” and its sequel “Happily Technically, Ever After!” is one such rarity.

Namita, a techie-turned-author, blogger, poet and mom to a toddler, had always been in the habit of putting down her literary thoughts in black and white. However, given the endless responsibilities of a full-time mom, time had never been on her hands. It took the coronavirus and lockdown blues to help her sort her witty outpourings in the form of a book.

To put it in her own words, “It was my way of bringing a smile on the readers’ face in these gloomy COVID-19 times.”

Her short and delightful book is a collection of episodes that relate to the day-to-day lives and times of Anu, Mr Husband and their adorable little son Mr Tots. Each episode is ‘punny’ enough to make the readers chuckle out loud.

“It is almost a thumb rule that readers enjoy books that have been written from the heart and with immense enjoyment on the part of the writer. Clearly, the popularity of her books is a reflection of the pleasure that Namita Das must have taken in penning them down,” said Deepti Sharma, one of her readers.

Inspired by several real-life incidents, the stories find instant resonance with whoever delves into them. Written simply yet elegantly, the hilarious shorties have proved especially appealing for the urban double-income couples. In fact, readers who cannot get enough of the comedy genre and are looking to sink their fangs intoa book after amusing book should definitely grab their copies of “It’s Punny.. Oops, I mean Funny!” and “Happily Technically, Ever After!”.

Namita’s experience of having lived in the maximum city, Mumbai and worked with corporate bigwigs like Infosys, Accenture and J.P. Morgan Chase explains the cosmopolitan nature of her stories.

Both her books have been brought out by Kiwi Books India, andan editor with the publication house feels that they will go a long way. “Two noteworthy points about Namita’s works are her tendency to avoid formulaic writing and the originality of situational comedy that she brings about in her plots,” he opines.“Also, the short tales lend themselves to wide adaptability - from getting converted into a comic strip to being translated on celluloid as a YouTube or OTT offering, Namita’s stories have the necessary appeal.”

With the many joys and wonders of motherhood that she has experienced, Namita has also started writing tiny tales for pre-school pupils. Her upcoming kid-lit book is currently under pre-publication. Well, we are sure this promising young author has many more literary gifts for us and we look forward to all of them!
