Mabast King: The Tale of the Kurdish Social Reformer

Mabast Bahaden Saber aka Mabast King was born in Erbil, Kurdistan in a low-income household to mother Yasamin and father Bahaden. The Kurdish region is a huge ethnic enclave spanning from southern Turkey and going all the way through Northern Syria, Iraq, Armenia, and Iran. The Kurds are marginalized minorities in these countries they’re mostly poor and backward but they’re proud of their culture. And it was only recently The Kurdish people and the community of the social media influencers and the content creators have started rearing up. One such individual is Mabast. He started his channel for fun that later turned out to be a massive success for him and now he is the most well-known celebrity in his community.

As of 2021 Mabast King is only 22 years old (as of 2021) and he has a long journey ahead of him. Mabast is a charismatic young man, yet not much information is available about his family or their professional or private lives. He has a brother who goes by the name Bahast. Mabast presence can’t go unnoticed standing up to 6 feet 1 inch tall.

Mabast grew in a war-torn country, his people suffered a lot during the wars and the purges during the reign of the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussain and the brewing insecurity, power struggles during the American invasion and their war on terrorism. He wanted to help his people come out of their misery so his content was mostly based on parodies, skits, and pranks. His videos came as a relief for his people in those years of repression and suffering. The youth could merrily sit and enjoy his videos, the troops engaged in the battle can also do the same in the frontline.

Mabast is an idealist he wants his people’s lives to change for good. He believes in the future and he thinks old wounds can heal only by making people laugh. Most of his content is based on humor but he has only transitioned into day to vlogs. Mabast King is the representation of the change in society and a great inspiration for people in the region plagued with violence and extremism.

Mabast Bahaden is also a great proponent of peace and universal justice who through his songs and rap speaks for millions of shunned and oppressed voices across his country. In his song Warzi Zstan, he spoke against some of the controversial government policies.

Most of his target audience is young people. Mabast brought a revolution in the tiny Kurdish YouTube with the diversity in his content ranging from Music, songs, raps to pranks and vlogging. He is also a TikToker Mabast always supports the smaller content creators of his community. He frequently uploads pictures on Instagram where he has about 20 thousand followers as of now. And more than 200 thousand followers on YouTube.
