Spiritual Wisdom from Yogi Shivan – The Healing Master and Practical Yogi on International Day of Peace

Yogi Shivan

1) Why do you say “Indian culture is needed for the world”? What is the relevance of “Arsha Bharatha Samskrithi”?

Arsha means eternal, Bharatha means sustaining joy and samskrithi means profound culture.

Indian tradition is the source of spiritual ecstasy and contentment. Ancient Indians were the ones who discovered the infinite possibilities of the human mind and used it effectively. Thousands of years ago, they proclaimed, “Manomayamidam Sarvam”;  The mind is everything. Losing peace of mind can make life miserable. Is not this the condition of modern man?

Modern society is plagued by mental and physical ailments such as irrational fear, lack of mutual trust and stress. The cause of this misery is the entanglement of sensual pleasures. The body is the gross expression of the subtle mind. Modern science underlines the same thing, matter is the manifestation of energy. So, get to know more about the intricacy of the mind. When we understand the working levels of the subtle mind, we will realize that each of us is not only a finite individual, but an integral part of this cosmic consciousness itself. You are what you know. A strong mind and body will enable the person to adapt to any situation. This is the way of liberation from all miseries.

2) As a guru who has followers in Europe and the West, how do they perceive India and spiritual culture?

Not only Westerners, but all humans who have been educated through modern systems and who rely on common sense, see the spiritual culture of India as a refuge. Modern man, who has acquired all the material comforts through intellectual development, has moved away from self-realization. They now realize that it is necessary to combine materialism and spirituality in order to understand the meaning and purpose of life. As a representative of Indian culture, they give me unconditional love and respect.

3) In today’s world, there is growing threat of terrorism, extremism, narcotic issues- how can there be a cultural solution to such problems?

Only through scientific and practical cultural upliftment can a lasting solution to these problems be found. Peripheral treatment will not be enough. All three topics need to be deeply understood. The source of faith itself is inexperience. One who has experience need not believe. Terrorism arises when superstitious people try to dominate others through organized force.

The use of intoxicants has existed since the time of man. Intoxication is enjoyable even for animals because it helps to rise from the limitations of the intellect to the infinity of freedom. Our body has the potential to produce more potent intoxicants than all the drugs available today. Meditation is the process of stimulating that inner ability. One who can experience spiritual intoxication through meditation does not need it from an external source which can produce side effects. Those who are unable to experience inner intoxication will look for external possibilities. The solution to all the above three problems is to spread scientific methods of attaining self-realization in the society.

4) Often we say great things about Indian culture. As a practical yogi, what are the shortcomings of Indian culture?

In essence, Indian culture has no limitations. But the mistakes that can be made in interpreting mystical teachings will turn out to be major shortcomings in the future. Take temple rituals for example, most of the people visit temple believing that God is present in the idol of the temple. The God is present not only in temples but in the entire universe. Idol embodies the art of transforming oneself into omnipresent God.

5) What are your Mantras for world peace and what would be your message in this united Nation’s International Day of Peace to the world?

My personal opinion is that no one should strive for world peace. But every person should try to find peace in his own life without wasting even a moment. When individuals are at peace, there is peace

in society because society is made up of individuals.  The only mantra and way to peace is through unprejudiced and fearless inquiry into one’s own reality.

On International Day of Peace, there is only one thing to say to the world community. Consciously try to understand the in-depth knowledge imparted by the ancient sages. Then life can be enjoyed to its fullest.

“Shrunwanthu viswe amruthasya puthra”, Dear children; even the possibility of immortality is within

you, then why do you worry? (Shwethashwatharopanishad, Chapter II, verse 5).
