Twenty years ago, Renu Paswan was a teenager who chose to take the brave step of leaving her home behind and start on a journey to self-discovery. Twenty years later, she has achieved self-realization and much more, thanks to her perseverance and hard work. In the process, she is now known as an InspirationPreneur, who inspires others to live life of their dreams. Renu realized her mission in life in 2018, when she published her first book “Live to Inspire”, while she was still working in a 9-to-5 job asa management professional in a leading IT MNC. That was another turning point for her.

Today, Renu plans strategies to uplift rural women by helping them start a small-scale business. She is also associated with a number of NGOs as well as with top UN bodies like the UNGASS, CSW, UN-WOMEN to carry out social development at different levels in India.

When asked what inspired her to become an InspirationPreneur, Renu says, “I was born in a middle-class family belonging to the backward Paswan community. I lived with my parents and two brother, both of whom were children with special needs. Obviously, they needed more attention of my parents and my needs were always secondary. However, the social ridicule and general backwardness of the village was what I detested the most in my childhood days. And it was then that I decided that I would rise above it and rewrite my destiny the way I want to.”

She left home and went on to support herself through college and university, eventually gaining a wonderful job opportunity with a top IT MNC as a management professional. However, this respectable position that Renu has attained in the society came to her after a lot of struggle and that is why she hasn’t forgotten her roots. For the past three years, she has been busy  making life-changing decisions about those who cannot change their lives themselves.  Apart from her book, she is also leading a foundation, “Live to Inspire”, which works for the downtrodden at multiple levels. Renu herself is a certified life coach, motivational speaker and a social worker of repute.

As part of the UN campaign in support of the world organization’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Renu travels to villages in hinterland India, which also includes her birthplace, her village in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. In these remote areas, Renu talks to rural women, daily wager, skilled but unemployed youth to devise strategies to create employment opportunities for them one way or another. She then also submits her ideas to the Central as well as State governments so that future policies can be formulated after taking into account the ground situation.

Talking about her mission for the future, Renu shares, “My ideology says, every life has its meaning and meaning of my life is to inspire others. I believe in spreading love and happiness all around in every possible way I can. My tools are writing, mentoring and speak out, especially for those who cannot speak for themselves.”

Renu has received a number of awards for her singular efforts towards gender equality and women empowerment. She was adjudged “India’s First InspirationPreneur” in 2019 at the World Economic Forum. Apart from being a regular participant at interactions under the “United Nations-Woman Forum”, she has also been invited to a number of TV debates and programmes, where issues that plague women in the present world are often discussed. For her exemplary contribution towards upliftment of individuals, Renu has received several other awards, including “Iconic Women of the Year,” “Women of Substance”, “India’s Achievers Award,” “She The Change”, “Nari Shakti Ko Pranam”, etc.
