RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The objective of this research was to arrive at a list of Top Multi-Speciality Hospitals in Mumbai for 2023.

The research had 4 major modules i.e. Desk Research, Recommendations from medical experts, Patient Experience and Hospital Factual and quality metrics followed by a scientifically developed analysis & ranking process.

Fieldwork was conducted beginning June 2023 to September 2023.

Module 1 | DESK research

Module 1 was a secondary research module. A comprehensive list of Hospitals was generated with the help of the internet, magazines, and other publications. The various sources used for the generation of the hospital list included:

1. List of Hospitals from previous surveys (based on availability)
2. A discussion with specialists to add/ delete any Hospital to ensure we have a comprehensive list.

As it is not possible to get a completely exhaustive list of hospitals and include them in the survey, we had the option of adding any new hospital name in the survey form if any respondent mentioned any hospital name outside our list. Effectively, every Hospital had a chance of getting covered in the survey if their name was mentioned by the respondents.

Module 2| Recommendations from medical experts

In this module, a structured questionnaire was administered to doctors of Oncologist, Nephrologist, Urologist, Cardiologist, Paediatrist, Gynaecologist/obstetricians, Neurologist, Emergency & trauma experts and gastroenterologists/Hepatologist to get ranking for various hospitals on various parameters ranging from Hospital Infrastructure to quality of treatment provided. A total sample survey of more than 200 interviews was conducted in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Panvel. Self-recommendations were not allowed.

Module 3| Patients experience

In this module, a structured questionnaire was administered to patients and their caregiver to get ranking for various hospitals on various parameters ranging from Hospital Infrastructure to quality of treatment provided. A total sample survey of more than 300 interviews was conducted in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Panvel. Self-recommendations were not allowed.

They key heads of the information areas were:

1. General satisfaction with hospital
2. Recommendation of hospital
3. Satisfaction with medical care
4. Satisfaction with service and organization

Module 4 | Hospital Factual and quality metrics

A detailed questionnaire was sent to all hospitals to collect factual information about their hospitals on various parameters which ranged from the infrastructure of the hospital to the quality of treatment provided. A total of 200 hospitals were contacted for factual information.

Analysis & Final ranking of MULTI SPECIALTY HOSPITALS

A robust approach was followed to arrive at the final rankings. Final scores and rankings were arrived at through step-by-step rigorous statistical analysis as given below:

1. Factual Score
   1. The information collected corresponds to similar parameters as in the perceptual survey.
   2. A detailed scoring system has been developed for each parameter.
   3. After assigning scores to each parameter, raw scores were calculated.
   4. The raw scores were weighted by their importance to arrive at weighted scores.
   5. The final entity score was calculated as in the perception survey.
2. Perceptual Score

1. 1. Ratings on various parameters for each hospital
   2. Calculating the importance of various parameters to arrive at weights for each parameter – we use a regression model to arrive at the importance of various parameters.
   3. Calculation of raw scores and weighted scores for each parameter
   4. Calculation of overall score for each hospital using importance weightage

• The final score for a hospital was a weighted average of the respective hospitals’ Perception Score and Factual Score.
• The rating score and their ranks were recalculated to arrive at the final score for multi-specialty hospitals.

Some caveats/assumptions:

1. Government or partly Govt. funded, Not for profit, and Charitable trust funded hospitals were not included in the ranking.
2. Best efforts were made to reach the maximum hospitals; however, any hospital that did not send a complete “Fact-Sheet” within the allotted time was assigned an average Factual score for calculating their overall ranking.
3. Any entity which expressly stated that it did not wish to participate in the survey was excluded from the survey. Also, some hospitals facing/faced major issues like license, insolvency cases etc. have also been excluded from the survey.
4. If the GAP between Hospitals is found very low, both hospitals are awarded the same rank.
5. Hospitals established in 2022 and onwards have been shown in the emerging category.

The results of this ranking should not be used as the sole source of information for future deliberations. The information provided in this ranking should be considered in conjunction with other available information about hospitals The quality of hospitals that are not included in the rankings is not disputed.
