Lower Parel eatery 'Asia On My Plate' is a must visit

You know how the stomach rumbles when you get down to work? Especially when the whiff of a Biryani, Grilled Basa or simple Palak Paneer plays games with the mind? Naturally, Asia On My Plate came to our rescue, kicking bellyaches, when we heard that the South Asian cuisine-serving eatery had opened shop in the extended neighbourhood.

The next day itself, we stopped by this place in Lower Parel that is surrounded by towering skyscrapers. Asia On My Plate was oodles of red, set off against a grey industrial ceiling, an awesome black-and-white striped floor (so chic) and a shining stainless steel takeaway counter. Clearly effort has been put to make this limited seating-restaurant a quick bite-hub.

Our approach to the order counter was distracted for a minute by awesome cool bulbs that tanged up the atmosphere a notch with their glowing filaments. The menu is stocked with six options of combo meals and otherwise has soups, salads, sandwiches and starters. As the bark yearned for a bite, it was an Asian Super Meal Combo ('349) comprising vegetable dumplings, Thai Red Curry and Hakka Noodles, a Very Asian Surprise ('149) that teamed Stir Fried Vegetables with Basil Sauce and Fried Rice, and lastly, Panggang Bumbu ('175). The name had us in splits, which was a sandwich asu00a0we discovered.

The packaging was impeccable still the staff struggled a bit with teething issues — our order took too long (60 minutes), tiring the excitement within. By the time we reached office, which was 15 minutes later, hardly any of the sauces had spilt, the food was warm and we had a fistful of cutlery including a plastic knife to be pepped about. The Panggang Bumbu was chicken covered with spices and coconut, stuffed in a baguette that makes for a very good bite-on-the-go option; the flavours were bang on, too.

With hardly any scenic view, the place jazzes up the joint with its interiors

Red Thai Curry was reasonably seasoned yet can have a better hit of coconut milk and juicier chunks of chicken. Stir Fried Vegetables was quite yum too though we found a raw-ish broccoli. Similarly the five dimsums despite their succulence, failed to impress.

The meals were above average, the dips were promising and added a zesty punch to the working lunch. While desserts are mentioned on their menu, the eatery hasn’t begun whipping it out from their kitchens. Till that happens, the three-course quick service meal will have to wait.

At 7/8 Walachia, opposite India Bulls, next to Deepak Cinema, Lower Parel.
