Maharashtra: Man cheated of Rs 45.69 lakh in share trading fraud in Navi Mumbai

A man from Navi Mumbai lost Rs 45.69 lakh to cyber fraudsters who lured him to invest in share trading, a police official said on Tuesday, reported the PTI. Based on a complaint, a first information report (FIR) has been registered against five persons under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act, an official from the cyber police station said, as per the PTI. The 44-year-old complainant has alleged that the accused contacted him on different social media platforms and lured him to invest in share trading, assuring good returns, the official said. The complainant invested Rs 45.69 lakh between March 2 and April 14, and has claimed that he did not get any returns and could not recover the invested amount, he said, according to the PTI. The police are trying to establish the identities of the accused with the help of the mobile numbers, WhatsApp groups and telegram IDs they used to contact the complainant, the official said, the news agency reported. Man duped of Rs 89 lakh in online share trading Meanwhile, in an another incident, in February this year, the Navi Mumbai Police had registered a case against six people for allegedly cheating a stock market trader of Rs 89 lakh, an official had earlier said on Tuesday, reported the PTI. On the complaint of a resident of Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, a case was registered on February 12, he had said, as per the PTI. As per the complaint, the six alleged cyber fraudsters lured the victim into investing into the stock market. They did not reveal their names to him and used mobile phones, social messaging apps and websites to communicate with him, according to the PTI. Between December 25 last year and February 9 this year, he transferred a total of Rs 89 lakh into various bank accounts mentioned by the accused. However, when the victim later tried to retrieve his invested amount along with the returns through a mobile application, he failed to do so, he said. Realising that he had fallen victim to a scam, the victim approached the police and filed a complaint, he said. A case under various Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections, including cheating, and the Information Technology Act, was registered at the Cyber police station in Navi Mumbai. (with PTI inputs)

Salman Khan house firing case: Accused duo arrested from Gujarat's Bhuj

In a major development in Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's house firing case, the Mumbai police's crime branch has arrested both the accused from Bhuj District of Gujarat state. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Datta Nalawade informed about the arrest in the wee hours of Tuesday. On Sunday morning, at around 5 am, two unidentified men on a motorcycle had shot four rounds outside Salman Khan's residence, Galaxy Apartments in Bandra. The accused fled the spot immediately. No one was injured in the incident. The Mumbai police in no time started the investigation in the case and formed several teams to nab the accused. After fleeing the spot, the accused had abandoned the motorcycle near Mount Mary Church, a little over a kilometre from Salman Khan's residence, the police said on Monday. The accused in Salman Khan house firing case had boarded a train going towards Borivali but alighted at Santacruz railway station and walked out. The police were also examining the CCTV footage from the area. As per the PTI report, the police on Monday interrogated three persons from Navi Mumbai, including the house owner where the accused stayed, the previous owner of the two-wheeler used in the crime, the agent who facilitated the sale, and several others as part of the probe into the firing that occurred on Sunday.

Samlan Khan firing case: Two men who opened fire, stayed on rent in Navi Mumbai

Two motorcycle-borne persons, who allegedly opened fire outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's house, had rented a house for a month in Navi Mumbai's Panvel, where he has a farmhouse, an official said, reported PTI. Two unidentified men had fired four rounds outside the superstar's residence Galaxy Apartments in Bandra on Sunday early morning and fled the spot. On Monday, the police interrogated three persons from Navi Mumbai, including the house owner, the previous owner of the two-wheeler used in the crime, the agent who facilitated the sale, and several others as part of the probe into the firing that occurred on Sunday. The owner of the motorcycle, which was abandoned near Mount Mary Church, a little over a kilometre from Salman Khan's residence, had recently sold it to someone else, the official said, PTI report said.  Investigations revealed that the abandoned two-wheeler was registered in the name of a person residing in Panvel, and a team from the crime branch went there and brought three persons for questioning. The accused had rented the vehicle in the Harigram area of Panvel in March, the official said.  The police have formed more than a dozen teams to probe the incident, and some have been sent to Bihar, Rajasthan and Delhi. "So far, we have not arrested or detained anybody in the case, but our inquiry is going on with several people," PTI reported quoting an official. The accused boarded a train going towards Borivali but alighted at Santacruz railway station and walked out. The police are questioning several other persons and recording their statements, he said, adding that the CCTV footage from the area is also being examined. The police have registered a first information report (FIR) under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act. (With PTI inputs)

Four booked for duping Thane man of Rs 10.8 cr in business deal

The police in Maharashtra's Thane city have registered a case against four persons for allegedly cheating a government contractor of more than Rs 10.8 crore by fabricating documents for a business deal, an official said on Monday, reported news agency PTI. A first information report has been registered under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code against a couple who were directors of two companies and two others, an official from Shrinagar police station said. The Thane man has alleged that the accused couple wished to sell their electrical goods manufacturing units in Andheri MIDC and Palghar and showed all relevant documents to him. He also visited the manufacturing units, he said, reported PTI. The Thane man paid Rs 5.82 crore to purchase the two plants, and he examined the document a few days later and found that they were fake, the official said. The accused allegedly did not present the original documents and refused to transfer the shares to the complainant's name, the official said, adding that the accused couple also allegedly shut their office in Thane, reported PTI. The complainant was duped of Rs 10.8 crore, which included the amount he paid to buy the factories and earnings from his investments in the units, he said. In another case, police have arrested a 30-year-old man after seizing banned tobacco products valued at Rs 5.06 lakh from him on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Maharashtra's Palghar district, an official said on Monday, reported PTI. During a nakabandi (security blockade) in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the police on Saturday evening spotted a car proceeding from Umbargaon towards Mumbai on the highway and stopped it on the basis of suspicion. During checking, the police found tobacco products of different brands kept in gunny bags in the vehicle and seized them, a police spokesperson said, reported PTI. The car occupant, resident of Dahanu in Palghar, was arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Food and Drug Administration regulations, the police added, reported PTI. The sale and consumption of gutka, scented and flavoured tobacco has been banned in Maharashtra since 2012. (With inputs from PTI)

Father and his son booked for duping Navi Mumbai firm of Rs 22.38 lakh

A case was registered against father-son duo, owners of a company for allegedly duping a Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai-based firm of Rs 22.38 lakh, police said on Sunday, reported the PTI. Based on a complaint, the Navi Mumbai police on Friday registered a case under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused, Mohammad Aslam Khan and his son Aajam Mohammad Aslam Khan, who own a labour supply company in Chhattisgarh, an official said, as per the PTI. As per the complaint, the accused supplied workers to the company and billed them Rs 1.5 crore, he said. The complainant made the payment, including Rs 23.11 lakh towards Goods and Services Tax (GST), which the accused were supposed to pay, the official said, according to the PTI The father-son duo allegedly only paid Rs 79,900 as GST and defaulted the rest of the payment, misappropriating Rs 22.38 lakh, he said. No arrest has been made in the case so far, and a probe is underway, the official said, the news agency reported on Sunday. Man loses Rs 1.22 crore in Forex trading fraud Meanwhile, a 45-year-old man from Navi Mumbai was allegedly duped of more than Rs 1.22 crore in a Forex (foreign exchange) trading fraud, police said on Sunday, according to the PTI. Based on a complaint, the cyber police on Friday registered a case under section 420 (cheating) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act against five persons, senior police inspector Gajanan Kadam said, the PTI reported on Sunday. The accused allegedly contacted the victim, a resident of Kharghar, and lured him to invest in Forex trading, promising him lucrative returns, he said. The complainant made payments to the tune of Rs 1.22 crore between November 2023 and March 2024, the official said. In January, the complainant found that he had Rs 2.54 crore, including profits, in his Forex trading account, but he was unable to withdraw the sum, he said. The accused asked him to pay Rs 48 lakh towards taxes and Rs 17.85 lakh as currency conversion charges which he did, the official said. However, despite making these payments, the complainant did not receive the money he invested and the profit he earned, he said. No arrests have been made in the case and the police are probing the matter, the official said.  (with PTI inputs)

Salman Khan firing case: Maharashtra CM Shinde speaks to actor, assures action

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday spoke to Bollywood actor Salman Khan in the wake of firing outside his residence and assured strict action in matter, reported the PTI. According to the PTI, CM Shinde said that the state government would not allow anybody to take the law into their hands. Two motorbike-borne unidentified persons opened fire outside Khan's house in suburban Bandra early Sunday morning leading the police to enhance security and launch a search for the accused, an official said. Speaking to reporters at Chaitya Bhoomi in Dadar area of Mumbai after paying respects to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on the occasion of his birth anniversary, CM Shinde also said the firing incident was very unfortunate. "I spoke with the Mumbai police commissioner and actor Salman Khan and offered him our support. The firing incident is very unfortunate. I assure people that this government will not tolerate anybody trying to take the law into their hands," the chief minister said, as per the PTI. According to the police, two persons fired four rounds outside the Galaxy Apartments in Bandra area, where Khan resides, at around 5 am and fled from the spot. FIR registered, bike recovered by cops Meanwhile, the Mumbai police have registered an FIR after two motorbike-borne unidentified persons opened fire outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's house in the city's Bandra area early Sunday morning, the news agency reported. The police have also recovered a two-wheeler, a little over a kilometre from the actor' home, suspected to have been used by the duo, he said. According to the Bandra police official, a first information report (FIR) has been registered against ¿unidentified person¿ under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act. Two persons fired four rounds outside Bandra's Galaxy Apartments, where the actor resides, around 5 am and fled from the spot, the police official said. Security outside Khan's residence was stepped up after the firing, he said. The local police, crime branch personnel and a team of forensic experts reached the spot to collect evidence, including footage of the CCTV cameras installed near the actor's house, and started a probe into the incident, the official said. Two killed, one injured as house wall collapses during repairs in Thane

Two people, a worker and a labour contractor were reportedly killed and another person was injured after a wall collapsed during repairs to a house in Maharashtra's Thane district on Sunday, an official said, reported the PTI. The incident took place at Bhayander East, on the outskirts of Mumbai, around 11 am, the official said. A house was being repaired when one of its walls collapsed on two workers and a labour contractor. While worker Makhanlal Yadav (25) and labour contractor Hariram Chouhan (49) were killed, the second worker suffered injuries, the official said, as per the PTI. After being alerted, the local firemen reached the spot, cleared the rubble and rushed the injured worker to a government hospital. A police officer from the Navghar police station in the area said a first information report (FIR) was being registered for negligence under the Indian Penal Code, the news agency reported on Sunday. Meanwhile, in an another incident last week, a single-storey under-construction house collapsed in Thane district late Sunday evening, civic officials said, reported news agency PTI. Nobody was injured in the incident that took place opposite an Urdu school in the Bhiwandi area, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation, reported PTI. After being alerted about the under-construction house collapse in Thane, local firemen reached the spot and cleared the debris, he said. Three persons were injured after a wall of a powerloom factory collapsed in Bhiwandi town of Thane district on April 1 morning, civic officials said.  As per a PTI report, the incident took place around 5.30 am at the unit which is located in the Navipada area of Subhash Nagar in Bhiwandi. The report quoted Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation's chief fire officer Rajesh Pawar saying that eight workers were present at the time of the incident.  Pawar further said that three workers got trapped under debris while five rushed out to save their lives when the wall collapsed.  The local firemen reached the sport after they were alerted of the situation and pulled the three workers out of the debris. Among three, two were seriously injured and were shifted to a hospital in Thane city while another worker was administered treatment in a local medical facility.

Mumbai: DRI seizes 781 organs of Bengal monitor lizards, soft coral; one held

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Sunday said that it seized as many as 781 organs of Bengal monitor lizards and soft corals. One person has been arrested in the matter in Nashik district in Maharashtra. According to the DRI, the officials had received specific intelligence that a gang of wildlife traffickers was seeking prospective buyers for Hatha Jodis (Bengal Monitor Lizard Hemipenes) and soft corals. While acting upon the information, a team of officers of DRI Mumbai laid a trap for the traffickers. The extremely cautious trafficker initially called the buyers, who were closely monitored by the DRI team, to Nandagaon railway station (Nashik district) but kept on changing locations for nearly 3 hours, finally deciding to exchange at a tribal hamlet with an extremely harsh terrain consisting of thorny scrubland with no scope for movement of four-wheelers.  It said, Around 3-4 reconnaissance patrol groups on bikes were engaged by the traffickers throughout the area to continuously monitor the area. The DRI team evaded identification by the patrol groups by displaying blue flags on their vehicle and blending in with many other vehicles that displayed the same due to the impending Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations. The DRI said that as the trafficker brought the contraband for exchange, the  team tried to rush in, but were stopped by a patrol group on a bike. Further, the trafficker was alerted and, in no time, the team was surrounded by 30-odd tribals who started pelting stones at the officers. Using this opportunity, the trafficker and his associates tried to run away with the contraband. However, the officers chased them for over half a kilometre on foot in the rough terrain, managing to apprehend the trafficker and also recovered 781 Hatha Jodis and 19.6 kg of soft corals which are listed under Schedule–I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act,1972. "The seized wildlife articles along with the detained person were handed over to the Maharashtra State Forest Officials for further action under Wildlife Protection Act," the DRI said on Sunday.

Anmol Bishnoi claims responsibility in social media post

Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has purportedly claimed responsibility for the shooting outside the home of Bollywood actor Salman Khan on Sunday morning. Anmol, who is wanted in India and is believed to be living abroad, referred to the firing as a "trailer" in a Facebook post. He also warned the actor in the social media post. The social media post which was written in Hindi reads, "We want peace. If the only decision against oppression is war, then be it. Salman Khan, we have only shown you a trailer so that you understand our strength and do not test it. This is the first and last warning. After this, bullets will not be fired outside the house only. I do not have a habit of talking too much," the post read. Two unidentified motorcyclists opened fire outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan's home early Sunday morning, prompting police to beef up security and initiate a search for the suspects, an official said. At around 5 am, two people shot four bullets outside the Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai's Bandra west, where the actor lives, before fleeing. Following the incident, the Mumbai Police have stepped up security outside Salman Khan's home was increased, and police were collecting footage from CCTV cameras near his home to identify the suspects.

Shooters opened fire while 'on-the-go', fled towards Mount Mary

Mumbai Police teams investigating Bollywood actor Salman Khan firing case has found that the two yet to be identified shooters involved in firing at Salman Khan's Bandra residence fired multiple rounds 'on the go' and later fled towards Mount Mary, about a kilometer away from the actor's home.  Sources said, "The investigations have reveled that the shooters slowed down the bike when they opened fire outside Salman Khan's home. They opened fire at the actor's residence while 'on-the-go' and later sped away towards Mount Mary." They said, the investigations are underway to zero in on the suspects who were on the bike. Atleast 15 different teams have been formed to investigate the entire firing incidence. The officials of the Mumbai Crime Branch are also conducting parellel investigations in the matter.  Two unidentified motorcyclists opened fire outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan's home early Sunday morning, prompting police to beef up security and initiate a search for the suspects, according to an official. At around 5 am, two people shot four bullets outside the Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai's Bandra west, where the actor lives, before fleeing. Security outside Khan's home was increased, and police were collecting footage from CCTV cameras erected near his home to identify the suspects, he added. The local police in Bandra, Mumbai Crime Branch officials and a team of forensic experts arrived at the scene to gather evidence. Meanwhile, in March last year, an e-mail threatening Salman Khan was received at his office, prompting the Mumbai Police to file a FIR against gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar, as well as another person, under relevent sections of the Indian Penal Code sections (IPC). The email had stated that Salman Khan must have seen Lawrence Bishnoi's interview to a news channel, and if not, he should. It stated that if Salman Khan wishes to resolve the situation, he should meet with Goldy bhai face-to-face. In June 2022, an unidentified person threatened Khan via a handwritten note, they said. Following the incident, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde spoke to Salman Khan over a phone call. CM Shinde also held discussions with the Mumbai Police Commissioner and suggested increasing Salman Khan’s security, an official said.

Navi Mumbai: Man found dead with head injuries; murder case registered

In Navi Mumbai's Nerul area, an unidentified man was discovered dead with head injuries near a public toilet, as confirmed by police on Sunday. According to Senior Inspector Tanaji Bhagat, a passerby saw the body early Saturday morning. The deceased, estimated to be in his mid to late 40s, was found lying near the public toilet in Nerul, reported PTI. According to the report, the police transferred the body, which exhibited head injuries, to a government hospital for a post-mortem examination. An initial police report has been filed under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The authorities are currently investigating to determine the identity of the victim, the news agency report further added.  In another incident, the Navi Mumbai police filed a fraud case against five persons after a man lost over Rs 1 crore. Reportedly, a 45-year-old man from Navi Mumbai he allegedly fell victim to a Forex trading scam, losing more than Rs 1.22 crore, as per police reports on Sunday. Following a complaint, the cyber police registered a case under section 420 (cheating) and other relevant laws against five individuals, senior inspector Gajanan Kadam told PTI.  As per the report, the accused allegedly approached the victim, a Kharghar resident, enticing him with promises of high returns on Forex trading investments. According to the complaint, the victim transferred funds amounting to Rs 1.22 crore between November 2023 and March 2024, the report added and further stated that in January, the victim discovered a balance of Rs 2.54 crore, including profits, in his Forex trading account. However, he faced difficulties withdrawing the funds. The fraudsters demanded Rs 48 lakh for taxes and Rs 17.85 lakh for currency conversion charges, which the victim paid, the report added.  According to the report, despite the payments, the victim did not receive his initial investment or the promised profits. No arrests have been made yet, and police are actively investigating the case, the report further stated.  Meanwhile, in another unrelated case, Mumbai Police is on a manhunt for two persons who opened fire outside actor Salman Khan's home in the Bandra area. According to the latest update, Lawrence Bishnoi's gang has claimed responsibility for the act.
